The Jeff Michaels Show..Not Glory Days

I went back to school with the intention of learning how to edit video on computer. I have done so plus much more.  About a month into the semester, I wanted to get more creative. One night, “a revival of the Jeff Michaels Show”

popped into my head. A brief history: About 20 years ago, I got my first radio job at KYYK/KNET in Palestine, Tx. An all country station on the FM side and old country on the AM side. On my first day of work the PD asked the name I was gonna use. Hmmm, well I certainly didn’t want people calling the house at 3am for Jeff Chavez. So, I chose Jeff Michaels a variation of my middel name. As I worked mostly nights, I found Jeff Michaels was allowed to say things Chavez would never say. Jeff Michaels could take caller requests and make them funny, he could add “hick” music to a slow talker and generlly make fun. It was a licence to hit on woman on air, express some political views, be rude and just have fun. In short Chavez cared about what people thought, Michaels did not. Now this is not an alter ego or some Clark Kent bit. I guess, just sort of an extention of me in some way.

A few years later The Jeff Michaels Show was again reborn on cable access, some thing along the lines of “Wayne’s World” for those of you old enough to remember. Well,  Michaels was full force on that small town and I had a blast. My show was the talk of the city council meeting one session as the “church’  folk wanted it banned, somehow the city or government funded cable access. That cable show was meant to show case my work that I had been doing in Dallas such as much extra work on the likes of Walker Texas Ranger. I eventully gave up the show to move to Dallas to get into acting.

Ok, since moving I have done many commercials and some indie film. So, the Jeff Michaels Show was not my “glory days’ in show biz. But,having revieved it even for just one five minute show is great to me. The Jeff Michaels Show  gives me total control in editing, content, and lets me visit “an old friend” so to speak. When you watch it, you can make fun or form any view you please and it really wont affect Chavez/Michaels in any way. The Jeff Michaels Show is pure ego, fun and rewarding for me. Kind of like the way an amature runner feels running a marathon. Not to win, but just for the love, self pride and guts it take to finish a marathon or in my case the Jeff Micheals Show.
